Wood Floors & Kitchen Design
By ARA
The National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) is predicting there will be more than 7 million remodels this year involving the room where people spend the majority of their time these days. And nowadays, the latest trend in kitchen design is to express your personal style.
This means a move away from the expected towards more unique looks, particularly when it comes to flooring. "Wood floors have traditionally been installed in bedrooms and living rooms. However, since they add so much warmth and comfort to a space and are so easy to take care of people want them in the room where they are spending the majority of their time as well," says Chris Sy of Carlisle Wide Plank Floors.
For a traditional, contemporary or retro look in your kitchen, Sy recommends a wide plank floor. They offer a more natural look and are easier to install.

Today, most vinyl shutters are hung with shutter-loks, a hybrid-fastening product that combines the ease of a nail with the holding power of a threaded screw. Shutter-loks are available... Read More |

A Creative Child's
Playroom on a Budget
By Allison Whitehead
Kids grow up fast, so it isn't the best investment to spend a lot on a small child's play room. Here are some ideas to design a creative playroom on a budget.
Fun Wall Design - Instead of using expensive patterned wallpaper to cover the walls, go for paint instead. This way you can create your own designs. You don't need to be an artist – simply draw a simple shape scene on the wall in pencil before you begin (clouds and a rainbow or a circle sun with sunshine rays), and then choose bright colors to paint your shapes. You can buy inexpensive white paint for the walls, and two or three primary colors for painting the simple shapes.
Mats & Rugs - If you can't afford new carpeting, look out for a child's play mat that you can use as a rug. These often have roads and buildings... Read More |
