Four Great Home Features for a Stay-at-Home Lifestyle

More Americans are working remotely because of the coronavirus, and for some people that shift will be permanent. Dedicating space to a stay-at-home lifestyle not only allows you to enjoy your home, but it makes your home more valuable because would-be homebuyers are seeking a new wave of home features. Here are four desirable home features:

Office Space
When you’re working from home, you need a place to work. Propping up your laptop in bed or setting it up in the laundry room while you fold clothes isn’t ideal. Convert a spare bedroom, a den, a loft, or part of a finished basement into office space. Keep in mind, the more private a space is, the better it’s suited for work.

Gourmet Kitchen
If you have an inclination for cooking, equipping your home to match your culinary ambition makes sense. Counter space is a top priority for preparing top-end home-cooked meals, and a good oven and appliances are a necessity. If you want to prepare gourmet meals at home, a well-appointed kitchen is a must-have.

Home Gym
Find a spot in your home or garage to build a gym—preferably near your office; it can be as basic or as complex as you can afford. Include equipment such as a workout bench, space for a yoga mat, free weights or resistance bands, and cardio equipment such as a treadmill or stationary bike. It will be easier to keep in shape if you only have to walk from your office to the next room to work out.

Outdoor Amenities
If your desire or ability to travel has been limited, or “staycations” are more your thing, think about upgrading your outdoor space to meet your needs. You may want to consider adding a pool or hot tub, large patio area, or even an outdoor kitchen or bar. Spend future staycations enjoying your new outdoor space.
