Tips to Tackle Spring Cleaning

Spring cleaning your entire home can be an overwhelming task, but by dedicating just one hour a day, you can successfully clean your home in small, manageable sections. Here are four ways you can spring clean in one hour a day.

1. Tackle One Area
It's easy to get distracted when spring cleaning. You begin cleaning the bathroom then somehow end up going through drawers in the bedroom! Begin by deciding on one area to clean, then stay in that area until it is finished. Keep a basket and garbage bag nearby. Items that don't belong in that area go into the basket to be put away later. When you're done decluttering your designated area, wipe down surfaces, dust, and vacuum.

2. Consider Calling a Professional
Make a list of large jobs, such as cleaning the carpets, that you've been meaning to get to but just haven't had the time. If your list has several large cleaning jobs that have been put off for months, then it's time to call in reinforcements. It's worth paying a professional to come in and help instead of continuing to let tasks build up—and the best part is that it will be completed in one afternoon!

3. Put Away Out-of-Season Items
Remove autumn and winter decorations to get ready for spring. Put away any winter bedding and clothing items. Before you automatically pack up these items, take a look at them and make sure you want to keep them. If something is old, broken, torn, or just not your style anymore, it's time to let it go. Throw away anything that can't be donated, and bag the rest to be picked up for charity.

4. Do a Daily Tidy-up
Go around your home with a basket and collect loose papers, random clutter, and anything else that is out of place, then put them where they belong. Toys should live in the toy box, books on bookshelves, and clothes in closets, drawers, or hampers. If you make just one round a day for a couple of weeks, you will notice a great decrease in the clutter around your home. By doing this you'll figure out which items don't have a place to go and you can create homes for them.
