Wireless technology has made smart home technology affordable and easy to install. Smart home devices are among the hottest trends in real estate today, with numerous potential buyers seeking out smart features, particularly voice-activated features, in homes. If you've been on the fence about investing in smart technology, consider one or more of the following popular features.

Thermostat: The top-of-the-line smart thermostats offer cutting-edge technology to ensure your entire home gets heated or cooled properly. Place a small wireless sensor in an area of the home that stays chilly or hot. The thermostat will keep the heat or air-conditioning on until the thermostat senses the room has reached the proper temperature. You'll no longer have to waste time and energy with space heaters and air conditioners to achieve consistent temperatures throughout your home.

Many thermostats also offer the capacity to learn a homeowner's daily routine and adjust the home's temperature accordingly to cut energy costs. You may be able to lower your heating and cooling bills by as much as 20 percent.

Amazon Echo: Numerous homeowners love using their voices to control smart home products because voice recognition is so intuitive and creates a seamless user experience. You can use the Amazon Echo for virtually every home task, including adding items to a grocery list, answering questions, and playing music. The Echo offers the capacity for integration with existing home systems, allowing you to control your smart lights, thermostat, locks, and more with your voice.

Kitchen Automation: Premium smart kitchen appliances make a home more functional and more appealing for homeowners. Smart appliances feature durable stainless steel construction and in many instances an Energy Star rating. You can purchase smart refrigerators, dishwashers, ranges, ovens, and microwaves. Smart features include LED touchscreen displays, humidity- level sensors, gourmet-recipe banks, and microwave-sensor cooking. Some refrigerators can even sense when you're running low on an item and will place it on your grocery list automatically.

When you're using a smart home product with Wi-Fi, make sure you're always using it over a secure network connection. If you have any questions about setting up a secure Wi-Fi network or about any other aspect of using smart home features, consult with a technology specialist.
