Choosing plants for the garden and patio can be a daunting task given the wide range of beautiful plants that are available. The following perennials, however, are worth considering for a special focal point of the landscape.

Autumn joy sedum offers lovely deep pink tufted blooms for the garden. Full sunlight and a well-draining soil are two requirements for this plant. Because they can thrive in less-than-ideal conditions, they are a hardy perennial that is easy to care for.

Beebalm is a distinctive ornamental plant with gorgeous flowers. Although it can be an aggressive spreader, when held at bay it will add beauty to any setting. This perennial prefers moist soil and plenty of sunlight.
Asters, known as 'Purple Dome,' are delightful daisy-shaped blooms with a bright splash of magenta color. Full sunlight and a well-draining soil make for the best planting conditions. This beauty will also attract both butterflies and birds to the garden.

The remarkable 'Green Envy' coneflower is an attractive plant for any setting. Its daisy-shaped flowers boast light green petals while the interior is a dark button of green. Full sunlight and well-draining soil are its preferences.

‘Bressingham Ruby' bergenia is a lovely ornamental plant that thrives in full shade. Its burgundy leaf color compliments its red and pink flowers. An aggressive spreader, many gardeners find it useful for covering a large garden niche.

Purple balloon flowers are elegant plants that will thrive in full sunlight to partial shade. A soil with even moisture content is ideal for this perennial. Expect to see blooms by mid-summer.

Although tolerant of partial shade, peonies prefer full sunlight. This herbaceous plant boasts large and lovely blooms. Well-draining soil and adequate moisture are ideal. It makes a great focal plant for any landscape.

While there are many other perennials to consider (like daylilies and hostas), these choices will add a touch of dramatic beauty to the setting.
