The best lighting solution for your home will illuminate the exterior of your home for safety purposes and enhance the beauty of your home and landscape.

There is a wide variety of lighting designed for the home, including traditional electric powered lights, solar lights and even battery-powered lights. Most are designed to automatically come on at dusk and turn off at dawn to conserve energy and provide a carefree way to light the exterior of the home.

It may be a good idea to choose a variety of lighting options for the exterior of the home, perhaps a large floodlight outside the front door, along with some accent lighting along the sides of the home.
A row of solar lights along the driveway, on a walkway or by the mailbox can be a cost effective solution to provide a safe way for guests and residents to move around after dark.

When shopping for the right lighting solution, you should take along photos of your home and landscape along with a landscape layout so that you have a reference to help the store's lighting consultant choose the right lighting for your homes exterior.

Remember that using lots of electric light fixtures can significantly increase your energy bill. Light fixtures that require special bulbs will be more expensive to maintain than those that use standard bulbs, and those fixtures that use energy saving bulbs can save money on your power bill.
