Stage Your Bathroom

Most real estate agents will tell you that kitchens and bathrooms are the rooms that actually sell your home. Staging your bathroom is essential to appeal to prospective buyers. If you do a good job staging your bathroom, prospective buyers will remember it over those in other homes they have viewed.

Fixtures & Details - Be sure all fixtures are in good condition with no leaks or drips. If your plumbing fixtures are outdated, replace them with sleek modern fixtures. Stay away from brass fixtures, which were popular in the 1980s; instead, choose pewter or stainless steel.

Color & Décor - Color coordinate some fluffy towels with your bathroom color scheme and place them on the towel racks just before prospective buyers arrive. Add a matching bathmat, a floral arrangement and some floating candles in a pretty bowl.

Scrub & Replace - Shower doors should gleam. If yours has lime or soap scum deposits, remove it and scrub it with a scouring pad and a mixture of ten parts water and one part muriatic acid. If it comes spotlessly clean, rinse it and replace it. If it still looks dull and lifeless, replace it with a new one. This method also works well for cleaning tile. Thoroughly clean tile grout or if necessary, replace it.

Clean & Deodorize - Always clean your bathroom thoroughly before your home is shown. The room needs to sparkle from top to bottom and from every angle it is viewed. It should have sufficient lighting but not be overly bright. Keep counters and shelves clear of clutter. Remember to empty, clean and deodorize wastebaskets. Also, don’t forget to clean the exhaust fan. Leave no sign of it being recently used. A spotty or messy bathroom will turn prospective buyers away.

Stage your bathroom so that all a prospective buyer can say is, “Wow!” Make your bathroom a place of luxurious relaxation and it could sell your home.
