Thanksgiving Potluck

While Thanksgiving Day is a wonderful time for family members and friends to gather and share stories of the year just passed, few people relish the thought of cooking an entire meal for dozens of guests. The stress involved in creating a feast of turkey and all the trimmings, along with pumpkin pie and other delectable desserts, can quickly take the fun out of Thanksgiving celebration. This year, why not cut the stress and increase the fun with a wonderful, family potluck Thanksgiving?

A potluck feast is a great way for every member of the family to share their favorite creation, while relieving the host of the burden of cooking the entire Thanksgiving meal. This leaves the host of
the Thanksgiving festivities free to decorate the house and table in anticipation of all those wonderful homemade goodies.

In order for the potluck idea to work properly, every invited guest will need to know what others are bringing. These days, communicating with family members and other Thanksgiving Day guests is as simple as sending an email, logging into a family website or creating an event through Facebook. Email exchanges and websites are perfect for far-flung families to keep in touch, and a great way for everyone to coordinate the special dishes they will be contributing.

A family potluck Thanksgiving can be made even more special by asking contributors to include the recipe for their special creation. These recipes can be compiled into a keepsake cookbook that is presented to each guest as a special holiday gift. These wonderful cookbooks can become a tradition, with each member of the family looking forward to contributing their new recipes to next year's Thanksgiving Day potluck celebration.
